BIOGRAPHY

MARCUS W (Mark Wheawill) is an Artist, Record Producer, Sound Engineer, Electronic Dance Music Producer, Singer, Guitarist, Bass Guitarist, Pianist/Keyboardist, MJ and DJ hailing from Manchester, UK. Aswell as being a multi-instrumentalist, Mark was the Singer and Rhythm Guitarist of the infamous grunge band “Pop Love Haze” in his teenage years and later went on to produce over 35 electronic dance music records (mainly Progressive House/Progressive Trance) under many different pseudonyms including Vitality, Evenflow, Source Of Gravity, TSYT, 4th Orbit, Bravemusic, Outlanders and also under his own name in the early noughties.

His 12″ vinyl singles were released on a number of different record label’s including Baroque Records, Method Records and Source Of Gravity Recordings and he also featured on several CD compilations around the globe. Mark can mix on Vinyl Turntables, CDJ's and USB decks.

Mark was also a rising star in the Progressive House/Trance music scene in about 2003 and he had huge success with the track – Evenflow “Indecisive” (Baroque Records) which was played at the legendary club – Cream in Liverpool. His music was supported by Superstar DJ’s such as Armin Van Buuren on his “A State of Trance” radio show in the Netherlands and also by Sasha, Paul Oakenfold and Nick Warren to name a few.

His 12″ vinyl release – Vitality “Skylite” on Method Records received Tune of the Month in IDJ Magazine in the UK in 2003 and many other releases, most notably – Mark Wheawill “Transition” (Baroque Records) and Source Of Gravity “Perseverance” (Pied Piper Records) were recommended Tunes of the Month in the same magazine.

Mark has a global following and fanbase and has also worked with legendary Progressive House/Trance act Tilt on a remix project for a short period of time. After leaving the record label’s he was signed to, Mark decided to start his own record label – TSYT RECORDINGS and self-funded and self-released his debut album on CD – Vitality “Vitality” in 2004 which received great accolades. It was a limited run of 1000 copies and he also DJ’d on Key 103 FM (which was Manchester’s biggest radio station at the time (now called Hits Radio)) at his peak in 2003 to approximately 15,000 listeners and played at 2 Kinky at The View in Frodsham, Cheshire in the UK to about 1000 clubbers and was also an International DJ performing at venues in Lisbon, Portugal and Colombia, South Carolina, USA.

During an interview in 2003 with Residentadvisor.com which is an online dance music magazine based in Australia, Mark mentioned that he wanted to work with Christina Aguilera and Kylie. Mark didn’t expect it to get taken so seriously, but it ended up going viral on the internet and Christina Aguilera fans as far away as Brazil were asking “Who the hell is Mark Wheawill?” on forums on the web.

In 2004, Mark officially parted company with the record label’s which he had previously been signed to and released his debut album “Vitality” on his own record company – TSYT RECORDINGS Ltd. In 2005, Mark completed a couple of bootleg remixes of Christina Aguilera’s “Ain’t No Other Man” which caused an almighty stir! Although these remixes never had an official release, they were highly praised and sought after by those that heard the track.

Not long after this, Mark had a very lengthy break from music production and DJ’ing for over a decade due to mental health. He lost his passion for music and interest in making music and DJ'ing, but continued to listen to music. It became apparent in 2017 that Mark had suffered from mild sensorineural hearing loss due to working in noisy environments for most of his life and had lost the high frequencies in his right ear. Despite being partially deaf, Mark has adjusted to life and adapted to change and in 2019, Mark rediscovered his passion for making and playing music and started making and playing Drum & Bass music under his MARCUS W alias and House and Trance music under his own name merely for the love of music and because it is his passion in life. Also, because it is great therapy for Mental Health and to showcase his skills and music abilities to get work DJ'ing etc.

These sub genres of electronic dance music are what Mark originally was making and playing before he started his electronic dance music career back in 1999 when his music was originally released on Source Of Gravity Records and Gravitation aswell as all the other record labels which he was signed to at the time. Mark has an extensive back catalogue of music productions and intends to start performing and DJ'ing live at gigs and festivals in the UK and across the globe in the near future.

Mark decided to quit the music industry in October 2024 deciding not to release music through the usual outlets and through other record labels and became an independent artist explaining that the music industry in its current format is a complete scam and a slave industry even more so these days and is also racist, full of exploitation and dominated by one race which persecutes other races. Unless you go through their distribution networks and record labels etc., you'll be able to get gigs in their clubs and at their festivals etc., but if not you will struggle because the industry is boxed off in order to make their artists and DJ's which are signed to their record labels and which they have vested financial interests in to look like the best options and appear more successful which only really benefits all the middlemen involved in the music business. He says that the music business for many artists is a slave labour industry which only really benefits all the middlemen involved in the process of promoting, distributing and selling music.

Mark also explains that the music industry is highly racist and discriminates against disabled people especially those of other races other than their own. Record Companies are also buying out distribution companies now too in order to not have to pay artists and so they don't have to sign them to record deals etc. The music industry is just one big scam and it's not worth going through all these middlemen for such a small slice of a pie if even that. It is much better to be independent and release music direct to the fans who really love the music and support artists. Mark knows the industry inside and out and understands how it all ticks and advises artists not to fall for the scam of an industry.

Mark makes music for the love of it as he always has done since childhood and now releases music completely independently and releases his music direct to the fans/listeners via his Music Portal as opposed to going through the scam of a music industry which consists of unneccessary middlemen and distribution networks which serve no real purpose but to line their own pockets and monetize every aspect of the so-called music business which makes it difficult to get anywhere in the music industry unless you have a neverending overdraft facility or extremely deep pockets. As one so-called friend said to Mark: "The music industry is a trap!" and Mark agrees with that statement, hence why he decided to take matters into his own hands and take as much control as possible over the distribution of his own music by releasing it through his own Music Portal.

On a positive note, some people have said that Mark is the best Electronic Dance Music DJ in the world which they've ever heard because of his flawless and exceptional uplifting DJ Mixes. And more so, because he is partially deaf. It is an outstanding achievement considering losing the high frequencies in his right ear. As far as we know, there is no one on Earth like Mark who can sing, play the guitar, keyboards/piano, drums and also DJ amongst many other things. Another person recently said that Mark should be winning platinum awards for his DJ Mixes. Join the dots!

Mark recently made his last three Trance music albums "Trance Portum", "Last Flight To Trancentral" and "Tranceparent" and Progressive Trance E.P. "Order Of Gravity" available to download directly from his Music Portal in the downloads section of the main menu of his Music Portal as a goodwill gesture and to demonstrate his music production skills in multiple dance music genres. Mark plans to release more albums and tracks past, present and future through his Music Portal at some point in the future.
